Pack Up + Go: Pre-Trip

I love to travel. While I truly believe there is no place like home, I absolutely adore getting out and exploring other places--with friends, with family, or even alone!

For the past two summers, my friend Daphne and I have embarked on new (to us) cities. In summer 2015, we booked a trip the day before we left to Asheville, NC. It was my first time in a hostel, and we made our way around the adorable small city. Last year, we road tripped to Buffalo, NY for a night before spending the next day and night in Niagara (USA then Canada). Finally, we spent the bulk of our trip in Toronto--followed by a quick stop in Detroit on the way home!

We planned on taking another trip this summer, and we tossed around some ideas. However, on March 20, Daphne e-mailed me about something I had never heard of: Pack Up + Go. She told me to do my own research... and that's how this all began!

Upon my research, I found out Pack Up + Go is a travel company that arranges trips for you--with the destinations as SURPRISES! (I love surprises, by the way!) Currently, all of their trips are three days and two nights. You pick your cost (Per person with companions, they start at $400 for a road trip or $650 for a plane/train/bus trip.), fill out a profile about recent places you've visited and upcoming trips (so they don't send you to the same spots) and things you enjoy, and then they do the planning! They arrange the travel and lodging accommodations. While the content of your trip is not planned by them, they also supply you with curated suggestions of things to do, places to eat, etc. (As someone who researches the heck out of a place before going, this will be useful, since I won't have much time to do that.)

The crazy part of this whole thing is that surprise factor! One week before the trip, they send you an e-mail with the forecast, what to pack, and where to go to get started and when. So, literally you pack without having a clue as to where you're going! EEEEK! Thennnnn, a few days before the trip, you get an envelope with your destination and details included. Then, you wait until it's the day and time of when you've been told where to start. THENNNNNNNNNNNN, YOU OPEN THE ENVELOPE!!! Literally, you pack up and go!

Since Daphne e-mailed me about this (and I went back and forth via e-mail with her all day that day, freaking out over the concept and pondering everything that could happen with this), we have talked about it. Finally, set up our trip. We chose the "plane/train/bus" option, and our departure date is Monday, June 5, 2017. So, in just a couple days, we should get our e-mail with what to pack, etc.

I haven't even actually taken a trip with them yet, but now I want to tell everyone about this. I literally have no idea where I'm going on my summer vacation! I told Daphne we can't sleep while we are there, since it's only three days. She keeps thinking of potential cities. My friends also wonder where she and I will go. My family is excited to learn more. I'm slightly worried, as we put on the survey that we will "pack light" (aka carryons only)... and I don't even know what I'm packing for! More than anything, I am excited about where we will go and what the adventure will bring when I get there.

In Asheville, Daphne and I went to breakfast at Early Girl Eatery. I was getting hungry as we waited, and I commented, "This food better be good." She said, "What if it's not?" I said, "I'll eat it and still be happy." Hahaha. We quote that to this day, but I'm looking at this trip the same way. Despite having some preferences for certain places over others, we will still be happy!

In the meantime, I'll be on the edge of my seat in excitement to find out where we are going with Pack Up + Go! I'll follow up after my trip to share EVERYTHING about the experience (because that's exactly what this is)!
